"OCEAN is a very interesting aspect of my life. It is part of my DNA. It conveys all things I can't put into words.
Life, loss, love, spirit. As I evolve so too does 'Ocean'. The song was first recorded as part of my first album/cassette,
"Searching For Heritage", which I sold when I busked, then for my first self-titled studio album 12 years ago -- "John Butler (1998)".
The song has been watched online incredibly over 25 million times in various formats, nearly always live, be it from MusicMax Sessions or from one of the many festivals I have had the pleasure to play. I'd like to thank you for your continued support over all these years; it means so much to me. I would like to thank you by offering this first studio recording of 'Ocean' in over a decade as a free download.
I recorded it in my favourite studio, The Compound here in Fremantle Western Australia, a studio you helped me build.
This marks just another fleeting moment in a career that is very much ongoing.
I look forward to bringing you many new songs and albums into the future and continuing this amazing journey with you ALL.

Oh my God!!!! And I say that knowing I'm agnostic....lol What a performance! Cant imagine the hours of work. I'm a couch musician and its people like you who inspires me to become better. I bring my guitar to work, practice at my lunch break. But I do want to make myself a cigar box. I'm a paramedic working 12 hours shifts. Between calls be great to practice instead of watching you tube but then again I wouldnt of seen this video. Keep inspiring people with your music. Its candy for the ears and soul. Thanks from Quebec, Canada....

lol i'm sorry but this sucks so hard. underneath the slapping and tapping and super irrelevant contemporary nature of this work is a song with a quality of composition comparable to an average 16 year old.

These amazing guitarists who incorporate such flawless percussion with the instrument leave me spellbound. Every time I get on here I'm finding a new one to enjoy. Like a lot of us I started out with Michael Hedges and since then it's been a fantastic journey of musical discovery and euphoria. I've always been a hard rock guy first, but Hedges and the rest of these phenomenal players have brought this genre right up alongside that in my world. It is mind boggling what these people are accomplishing with the acoustic guitar and it is pure bliss to listen to.

I have seen this live. A few years before this recording. The original JB Trio performed in San Diego, Ca. What a show! Daniella made the concrete floor move and the stage was rocking so bad they stopped the show to calm the crowd. If you're in the market to witness the genuine article...just you go to a JBT show and find it!
