At 21 I went to the hospital in pain in my side. Hours later and after a few blood tests & this wanna-be Alex Karev looking Dr. told me it was period cramps. It didn't go away for 7-10 days. 3 years later, same thing, but I had to be taken in my ambulance. It was a kidney stone. (Once you get one they come back every 3-ish years & get worse)

My friend went to the ER because of severe chest pains on the right side, everyone there said that he was just stressed and kept laughing in his face and telling him to just walk away. His partner insisted that it wasn’t just stress and insisted that they do some tests Turns out he was having a series of heart attacks and needed to be taken to the OR immediately and on a stretcher because it wasn’t safe for him to move His partner saved his life!

1:40 I'm pretty sure what he had is something called a Cholesteatoma. In my case, I had it for about 3 or 4 years. One day, my nose had swollen, and that messed up my Eustachian tube somehow on the left side. The pressure got messed up. There's this little pocket/divet by your eardrum; this prolonged pressure had pushed that divet back, and as my body tried to heal it, it built a "tumor" of dead skin. It can be active or not active/sometimes be sometimes not. Left alone, it eats away your mastoid bone, inner ears bones, and eventually potentionally your skull making it's way to your brain. It can be mistaken for a simple ear Infection and go unnoticed for years. I was very lucky. I'm super sensitive if something is wrong with my body, and was adamant about it, plus lucky my dad takes me seriously. I also got a VERY good ear doctor. After a few check ins, he suspected it would be a Cholesteatoma, and referred me to a specialist. Sure enough, he confirmed it and said we should get surgery. My dad and I decided somewhat nonchalantly that we should just take care of it as soon as possible. We didn't think it was too serious. After all, I could still hear quite well, and had minimal - No pain. We were wrong, it was very serious. TLDR: If we had been any later, it would've reached my brain. It was a hearing Cholesteatoma, so It had been conducting my hearing for me in place of the bones. It had wrapped around a facial nerve, eaten through my bone, my skull exposing some of my brain, and totally dissolved two of three of the inner ear bones. Now I have titanium ear bones and a totally reconstructed ear. It's really cool to freak my friends out with. (You can see all the way back into my ear.) I healed very well, started getting my hearing back very quickly. I only have mild tinnitus in my left ear, but considering the extent and size it had gotten too, I'm very grateful. Honestly the surgery was quite fun and fascinating to hear about. Tympoplasty Mastoidectomy Massicular Chain Reconstruction. I still remember the name >:D I'm not sure how common it is, but yeah. I don't know exactly which part you were referring to as untrue, but I suspect its a real thing that happened. I also think I misspelled the surgery name, and of course am no expert, this is just from what I remember. Sorry for the long story, but I think it's fun to talk about :D

I've had patients say thank you, which means so much to me, but it always makes my heart smile and makes me feel like I've never been more proud of myself and my job, than to have a doctor tell me thank you and how appreciative they are of my hard work. It means so much to me even when they take time in the elevator to have a quick conversation or a quick conversation passing in the halls. #thanksdoc

The one who's patient had a thunderclap headache and just prescribed painkillers should be fired and sued for medical malpractice. I mean even when they did send them to a neurologist, it was RELUCTANTLY. I'm not even 20, or have even been in medical school, and I KNOW, that when someone has symptoms like that, which keep getting worse, or ANY symptoms that may be associated with moderate to severe damage to the central nervous system, it is CRUCIAL, to check for problems ASAP. Not checking could have severe consequences, including death.

My dad went to the doctors for shortness of breath, minor chest paint and dizziness after a cold. Doctors said not to worry, it was still from the cold. He went back after it didn't get any better. Doctors said he had neglected the cold and now it affected him badly. Gave him medicine, sent him home. Still didn't get better, so he went to another doctor. That gentleman asked the right questions, found some weight loss, connected the dots and had my dad tested for all kinds of stuff. Turns out he has Amyloidosis affecting his heart and spinal cord. He is severely disabled now, has to take chemo to slow it down but it is not curable. Would have been dead by now without the right diagnosis.

Went to another doctor and didn't respond to fibro meds. That doctor ordered a brain MRI and found a brain tumor. Had it removed about the time it was going to rupture (cystic tumor). Major bleeding, herniation, and injuries. Barely survived and have permanent disabilities from it. I write about my experiences with everything at chronicsos.com

A couple years ago I had terrible headaches that were just constant for several months. I saw my normal GP as well as went to the ER a couple times because it was just terrible. Nothing showed up on a CAT scan and they didn't try anything else to figure out what it was. I assumed it was a concussion from a head-to-head collision I had with a friend while playing football and they just agreed with that without proposing any other alternatives and gave me drugs that did nothing to mitigate the pain. One day, after this had been going on for 3 or 4 months, I had insane tooth pain in one of my wisdom teeth so I went to the dentist, they noticed a giant cavity in one of my wisdom teeth and just pulled the tooth. Instant relief. The headache was still there but had dropped from like a 9 to like a 3. It eventually went away permanently once the other 3 wisdom teeth had been removed as they had been overcrowding my mouth and causing severe pressure on my jaw which affected my whole head. Not one doctor asked about my teeth at all and if they had considered that and checked or if I had needed to go for a routine visit to the dentist I could have been spared months of suffering.

I have a large amount of systemic symptoms that my doctors have not been able to tell me what's wrong with me. In the beginning a neurologist diagnosed me with conversion disorder. That was 2 YEARS ago and I've gotten to the point where I have to use a wheelchair. My doctors have refused to do a spinal tap despite my symptoms matching autoimmune encephalitis. I also have not had any repeat brain MRIs I spend a majority of my days unaware of what is going on around me. I am DYING and my doctors are telling me it's psychological despite the on going therapy and the therapy at onset. I'm frustrated!

My question for you is, I often see the Calm app being advertised and I’m wondering if you’ve tried it out and if using this app is still bad for your sleep. Should I try this out or just stay off my phone altogether?
