    The captain was 'flying by ego'. No matter what he was told, no matter the evidence presented, he was determined to be right. It seems there is no team management. The first officer was in an impossible situation. At least culturally. He was the subordinate so could only politely suggest that the captain may want to follow a different approach. Of course, the first officer would not have made the suggestion lightly, even up to the point when he knew that he would rather hope for the best, even though the worst was almost certainly imminent.

PIA is a lost and doomed airline and to me i don't think it will recover from this incident. They are very quick to blame big birds flying into aircraft or aircraft. Much Regards.

    Pilot was responsible for criminal negligence , he ignored repeated warnings ( sir we are comfortable!!) from ATC and risked the lives of 100 people on board and eventually killed them!!! They should bring criminal charges against him , even after his death as a deterrent to other pilots. My understanding is this is a usual occurrence in pakistan.

    You’re getting 3 to 1 wrong. It’s 1 mile = 300ft, so 3 miles is 900. Being 100 ft out that close is unstable. Also, you cross the runway threshold at 50ft not 75.

    A clear pilot error. I happen to know a couple of PIA Pilots and usually here they enjoy the term 'dare devel Pilot'. Now what on earth has dare devel has to do when hundreds of innocent lives are at your hands? Being a Pakistani I demand a complete revamping of our Airline and there is all the more necessity for global airline industry to come to the assistance of PIA as airline travelers belong to all the countries of the world.

    Simple answer. Nonwhite countries are incredibly unsafe when it comes to aviation. It comes down to culture, the people in the middle east simply do not have the discipline required to follow the notes warnings and caution. This is pilot error.

    I seem to remember that there was a fatal incident on landing a few years ago involving the captain of a passenger jet. It was a long haul flight and the captain had just been woken from his scheduled sleep to find that they were far too high for the approach. He ignored all warnings from his copilot, descended rapididly and tried to land with overspeed warnings blaring away. He seemed to be suffering a form of startle, and hadn't woken from his sleep properly.

    How come the pilot did not follow the proper pre-landing checklist.?How many times hes done that.?Plus he reported nothing to ATC about landing gears malfunctioning.This sounds real very fishy to me,maybe it was sabotaged.Read somewhere there was a high ranking military official aboard the plane who had a strong case against a previous Prime Minister.Corruption from top to bottom.

    Poor piloting skills. Aviation permission should have been after Eid. How the hell could an error in this modern era be possible? The pilot and copilot were aware of the distance of touch down, speed, vertical decent rate, etc. RIP deepest condolences to the bereaved family members especially one father who lost his wife, son and two daughters in their teens. No words to console.😔

    One simple question to all. If the landing gear was not down and the pilot intended a belly landing in the first go when he scraped, actually bounced the engines on the runway, why did he not inform the ATC of his intent to belly land? If he had then there would be emergency services waiting for the craft on the runway. The ATC had no idea the pilot was coming in without landing gear. Conclusion, The pilot did not extend the landing gear. Forgetful or on purpose? We don't know.

    Here in Pakistan the inquiries are not up to standard and people wait reports to have answers to their questions about incident. But reports never give sufficient answer to them. Pak COAS lost life when his plane crashes on 17 aug 1988 in Bahawalpur. Its inquiry report didnt clearly gave answers. Air Chief Marshal lost hi life in Crash its report is unclear. Another problem is that the structure of aviation is wrong. They all have same controlling body so in enquiries they save each other by blaming pilot that it was his mistake. In this plane the pilot was very much experienced. It is easy to put all things on dead pilot because he is no more in this world. He cant say anything in his defence.

    Another take on this is that they came in with gear down, thrust at idle but too steep/fast (they'd been way high on approach) and tried to go around too late...they raised gear and flaps but before thrust came back in they scraped runway damaging engines...that would xplain why no mention of a gear problem and why gear operable on 2nd try, no?

    Correct yourself bro . What you told about the ringing warning that it was a speed limit warning ring . But actually it’s not a warning of speed limit . When the engine or airplane have a major failure then this warning rings will indicate . And if your airplane have a minor failure let’s suppose 1st engine failed then the 2nd engine will take command . So in this case a just 1 ring of Warning rings will indicate.... and in this incident engine got fire because of touching the surface while an attempt of belly landing the engines was heavily damaged so when the pilot said we are going through that’s mean they are using full power engine while going through engine got fire and failed so that’s why plane crashed .

    As a public who knows little about aviation, i wonder whether the pilot did alert ATC on the issues or alarm that he saw or in this case there is totally no indicator or alarm?     Actually route cause behind it was l/g not extended, and the reason for it is high speed and decent rate, for which the crew was facing "sink rate/pull up" warning with CRC, and the "too low gear" warning was suppressed by other high priority warnings, the crew never followed the l/g check list, or the time they did it, a/c speed was hi, so they decided to extn l/g later which never happened, there was no failure relating l/g else they could have extended it manually, if it was the case the l/g door should have opened and remained opened by mechanical cable. Actually crew never came to know about l/g, if it was a failure of l/g and they where intentionally going for belly landing, they would have never done a goaround. They where aware of l/g only after the impact, to save a/c and occupnt capt did goaround but it was too late and actually a blunder..

    One question - I know that times are different with the quarantine and this airport being in Pakistan not the US or Europe BUT. Didn't ANYONE on the ground or in the tower see this as it happened? And if the tower say it why didn't they confirm with the pilot that he was aware of having struck the runway. OR why didn't they inform him his landing gear was not down as he was clearly in sight well before he crossed the threshold. NOBODY SAW IT or if they did they said NOTHING???? Perhaps it's different mentality there that nobody dares to question the actions of a pilot - But really??? And Nobody on the ground at the airport has come forward to say they saw the plane landing without the gear down and they saw it hit the runway. WHERE WAS EVERYONE???

    The aircraft was at 10,000' when it should have been at 4000' - or about 6000' high. Going back in time, that indicates that the top-of-descent was about 40 nm later than it should have been. So, did the crew ask for descent late? Or did the ATC delay their descent because of, say, crossing traffic? Now, if the TOD was delayed, did the crew descend in selected mode (open descent) or did they use managed descent (VNAV)? Did they select open over managed descent because they were afraid that the aircraft would dive down to meet the profile and possibly cause Vmo exceedance or high V/S? If they did not descend late, was it a power-on descent (say, using V/S) that caused them to be high later? Is it company culture that teaches a preference of V/S or open descent over managed descent? How well-versed were the pilots in using the VDEV values (PERF page) or the yoyo to manage their descent? Were speed brakes used? If not, was the PF reluctant to use them? Why? And why did the PM not suggest it? What about the power gradient in the cockpit, which made the FO reluctant to tell the Captain that he was messing up big time? Was it because the FO had low hours? Or is it the feudal nature of the society that caused him to keep quiet? A lot of questions will need to be answered during the investigation...

    If I try to land a Mooney with the gear up, it is too fast on the approach and does not want to come down. I need the gear down as a speed brake to create drag. Is it possible this crew did not lower their gear and therefore had a too-clean airplane and had to dive to get down?
